The Hill County Democratic Party

Texas Democratic State Convention

June 4-6, 2020

Letter form out State Chair.

I'm writing to share an important update about our Texas Democratic convention. Last week, Bexar County approved an emergency public health declaration that prevents events hosting over 50 people from happening through the time that we had scheduled in San Antonio. As such, we are working diligently to shift our convention into a historic virtual event.

We view this as an opportunity to do something groundbreaking: by moving into a digital forum, we will make it easier for individuals across Texas to participate by removing barriers associated with travel costs, missed work, or physical ability. We also have the opportunity to innovate our convention business. By designing these systems now, we stay ahead of the curve and continue to be a leader among state parties who are operationalizing digital systems year over year. I have the utmost confidence in our team's ability to host this historic event.

Regarding hotels: if you have already reserved a room at the Grand Hyatt, your reservation will be canceled on Monday, May 30th and you will receive an email confirming the cancellation. If you have already made a deposit on the reservation, a refund will be made within 5-7 business days.

Make no mistake, there will be a Texas Democratic Convention, and the Party's business will be done. Though we are grounded in our concern for the wellbeing of our fellow Texans at this time, we are also hopeful that this move into an online space will encourage more participation than ever. Our tactics have changed, but our goals for November have not. Soon, we will reach out with more detailed instructions for what you can expect at our convention and how participation will occur.

Thank you for your support and continued patience.
